The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) on Tuesday moved an adjournment motion on the issue of a senior police officer’s meeting with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders.
Members of the opposition alliance also staged a walkout stating that the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) had not responded to the questions posed by them.
Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan alleged that the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) MR Ajith Kumar met RSS leaders for Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. “Is this now when the Chief Minister should order an investigation when he met RSS leaders in May 2023. It’s clear. They have cases against them by central agencies. They have to solve these cases with BJP. We have never said anything against leaders like Sitaram Yechury. It’s the CPI(M) leaders in Kerala who have relations with the BJP,” he said.
Taking a dig at the Chief Minister, Satheesan said if the ADGP did not go for him, Pinarayi Vijayan would have taken action against him or reprimanded him when the special branch submitted a report.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was not present in the Assembly today. Speaker AN Shamseer informed that the Chief Minister was unwell and doctors had advised voice rest for him.
Responding to Satheesan’s allegations, Parliamentary Affairs minister MB Rajesh said that whatever action was possible in the current situation has been initiated against ADGP. He also said that the ADGP has given a statement during questioning that he meets leaders of all parties.
“They are alleging that ADGP met RSS leaders for the chief minister. It’s a political contract, is what they alleged. This is a made up allegation as they know that’s the only way they can attack us. You should understand that we don’t have the habit of using officers for anything. CPIM is the largest and most supported party in Kerala and we don’t use officers. That’s your habit,” minister Rajesh responded.
